چکیده

Contrast enhanced cross sectional echocardiography is a new method for the real-time evaluation of regional myocardial perfusion. Two patients with a history of anteroseptal myocardial infarction and echocardiographically detected septal dyskinesia were examined by this new method. The first patient had two severe stenoses of the left anterior descending coronary artery and normal echocontrast opacification of the interventricular septum caused by collaterals from the right coronary artery. The second patient had good patency of left anterior descending coronary artery and no septal opacification. Thus contrast enhanced cross sectional echocardiography can be used to assess the importance of collateral blood flow in the myocardium.

Combined assessment of reflow and collateral blood flow by myocardial contrast echocardiography after acute reperfused myocardial infarction.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the combined assessment of reflow and collateral blood flow by myocardial contrast echocardiography after myocardial infarction. DESIGN Myocardial contrast echocardiography was performed in patients with acute myocardial infarction shortly after successful coronary reperfusion (TIMI 3 patency) by direct angioplasty. Collateral flow was assessed before coronary angioplast...

Assessment of Myocardial Collateral Blood Flow with Contrast Echocardiography

Humans have pre-formed collateral vessels that enlarge with ischemia. In addition, new vessels can be formed within ischemic zones from pre-formed endocardial arcades of vessels providing rich collateral flow. Collateral flow under resting conditions (if >25% of normal) is enough to maintain myocardial viability, but may be insufficient to prevent myocardial ischemia under stress. Coronary angi...

Collateral-flow measurements in humans by myocardial contrast echocardiography: validation of coronary pressure-derived collateral-flow assessment.

AIMS Myocardial blood flow (MBF) is the gold standard to assess myocardial blood supply and, as recently shown, can be obtained by myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE). The aims of this human study are (i) to test whether measurements of collateral-derived MBF by MCE are feasible during elective angioplasty and (ii) to validate the concept of pressure-derived collateral-flow assessment. ...

Assessment of the collateral circulation of the heart.

Ever since the development of coronary angiography in the early 1960s, the collateral circulation of the heart has fascinated cardiologists and has been the subject of sometimes contradictory and speculative theories. The basis for systematic study of the collateral circulation has been provided by the seminal work of Schaper, who started to perform experimental studies as early as 40 years ago...

Quantitative contrast echocardiographic assessment of collateral derived myocardial perfusion during elective coronary angioplasty.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether myocardial contrast echocardiography can be used to quantify collateral derived myocardial flow in humans. METHODS In 25 patients undergoing coronary angioplasty, a collateral flow index (CFI) was determined using intracoronary wedge pressure distal to the stenosis to be dilated, with simultaneous mean aortic pressure measurements. During balloon occlusion, echo...
